Jelly Ocean Animal Rescue

Use tongs to "rescue" the ocean animals from the jelly ocean!

For this "jelly ocean" we used flavoured blue Jello or this plain gelatine with blue food colouring, which I prefer because there is no added sugar and is much less sticky.

Jelly Ocean

» Knox Gelatin (follow instructions on box)

» add blue food colouring

» add a few drops of an essential oil for scented jelly; we used tangerine for an energizing summery scent (plain gelatin doesn't smell great, so the essential oils help!)

» add animals | shells | gems

» add liquid slowly

» chill overnight!

» use tongs to take out animals! (tongs available in SHOP)

In This Activity

• Spark Conversation — chat about the ocean animals & how they live, what they eat, etc.

• Fine Motor Work — using tongs is great for those little hands & muscles.

• Sensory — watch the jelly change from liquid, to more of a solid, to squishy & mucky almost liquid!

• Imaginative Play — our littles pretended they were saving the ocean animals from the muck.

• Numeracy — Count the ocean animals!
